The World Needs Better Photobooks
I love my photos and the convenience of taking outstanding photos with my iPhone. With three children and a business to run, I am faced with the conundrum of taking hundreds of photos a month and they all sit in my phone. Growing up, my mother made photo albums for us. She would print up 4×6 prints by the hundreds and carefully organize them into albums that I cherish to this day. I have wonderful photos but I don’t want to just share my icloud albums with my kids when they get older. I want to give them memories that I have, in something tangible, something that was there when we were making the memories.
I ordered photobooks from a number of sites and used all kinds of apps but was never satisfied. I run a yearbook publishing company, so my standards of quality are probably higher than the average consumer, but it seemed weird to me that the quality and binding standards used in yearbooks were not used in photobooks. The photobooks I received were printed on thin paper and were always glue bound and not sewn. After giving a photobook to my daughter (4 years old), she would love to flip through the pages but after a few days, a few pages would fall out. Glue binding will never last the test of time.
At my yearbook company, we sew our books. That means each page is threaded together into a book block with what looks like a giant sewing machine. It’s the combination of sewing and gluing a book together that gives me the confidence to hand out a few hundred books to elementary students and know, those books will hold together. We have brought that binding technology and that peace-of-mind to photobooks.

Photobooks generally have high prices and expensive shipping costs. Surprisingly, they’re usually more expensive than yearbooks. Probably because most people are ordering just one at a time.
We run a large multi-million dollar printing and binding production network for our yearbook business. Our manufacturing facilities are across the country and produce thousands of books a day. We’re opening up that capacity to share with our GoBooks customers so you can get the pricing benefits of our large and distributed production system. What that means is we’re going to make some surprising low priced photobooks with cheaper shipping costs than other companies.
Some people might get concerned that our prices are too good and maybe we’re cutting corners in the production of our books. But, I wanted to make a photobook service that I would love to use and would love for my whole family to use. The reason we can price better is simply because of our scale.

Honestly, after using the app, we were pleasantly surprised how well the app was at creating a photobook.
